Calgary Mini Maker Faire 2012

The first ever Maker Faire in Calgary was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012.  
It was a small event as Maker Faire's go, but attended by a very enthusiastic crowd on this bright, sunny, early autumn day here in Calgary.!

 There were lots of makers including; displays of 3D printers, weavers and fabric artists, lego masterpieces, robotics, rocketry, a group promoting a moon base, several cycle groups, the local Burning Man attendees and of course STEAMPUNKS.
There was a whole wall of the indoor display area, 6 tables, of steampunk awesomeness.

The Calgary Steampunk Assemblage had three tables with displays of hat making, converting nerf guns to ray guns, fabric crafts, several replica and modified guns and even a windup phonograph.

Award winning Edmonton artist Tim Hammel had a table filled with a fantastic collection of blasters, rayguns and exotic equipment.

My favourite online emporium of the exotic, Zoltan Gal, had a nice display of hats, goggles, replica antique firearms and information on how to create Steampunk costumes.

An added treat was the table for Changing Gears. These fine ladies produce wonderful jewelry out of old watches and sewing machines. 

All in all the Steampunk community in Calgary was pretty well represented at the first Maker Faire to be held here. Next year they are planning a much larger event and I'm sure there will be an even larger Steampunk presence to go with it.
